If you have braces in Tracy, California, then you need to care for them each and every day. If you don’t, your smile and your orthodontic process can reap the consequences. That’s right: Your braces won’t care for your smile the way you need them to and it might even delay your treatment time. So, do your best to keep your braces in tip-top shape. To help you do so, our orthodontist, Dr. Steven Jung, is happy to give you the tips you need.

-Brush your teeth every morning and night with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. It’s also recommended to brush after each meal and snack.

-Floss your teeth at least once a day (more if possible). If flossing is difficult because of your braces, ask our orthodontic team about tools that can make the task a bit easier.

-Rinse your mouth daily with antibacterial or fluoride mouthwash.

-Visit your dentist regularly for your dental checkup appointments. This is vital because your dental team cleans harmful substances that are stuck around your braces. You need a cleaning every six months.

-Avoid sticky, hard, and chewy foods as well as have a diet that is friendly to your braces.

-Visit our office when you’re due for an adjustment appointment.

-Protect your teeth and braces with a mouthguard if you participate in high-contact sports and activities.

-Call our office and schedule an appointment if you have damaged your braces.

-Use oral hygiene tools that help you clean around the nooks and crannies of your appliance. These tools can be anything like floss threaders, water flossers, electric toothbrushes, and more.
